連雅思主考官都讚嘆的雅思評價

作者序

《連雅思主考官都讚嘆的雅思單字+文法》──

It is impossible to include every useful word and cover every aspect of grammar in an IELTS test preparation book. We have tried to cover some useful topics and include some key points we feel are the most useful for you in your study. As such, we have tried to highlight frequent errors, common areas of confusion and useful structures for all parts of the test.

Each unit is structured around a central topic which you are likely to come across in the IELTS test.  Every unit begins with a short warm up, followed by vocabulary and exercises. This is followed by a key grammar point for the unit. Finally a review section helps you to remember what you learned.

Rather than only including a list of individual words, we show you how to use words in sentences and how to improve your own sentences by using phrases and combinations of words together.  In the grammar section of each unit, you will find useful tips and helpful explanations to help you understand how to use the structures. In addition, examples which can be used in the IELTS test for both speaking and writing are included so that you can understand how to apply your own knowledge in the real exam. Lastly, the review exercises focus on different aspects of the speaking and writing test, to help you to feel more confident and understand what you need to do to improve both your range and accuracy while using English.

I hope that you find this book useful, and wish you every success in your test!

文法與單字範圍極大,《連雅思主考官都讚嘆的雅思單字+文法》盡可能涵蓋當中的重點精華及學生最需要釐清的觀念及字彙,我們將容易混淆、常見錯誤及有用的文法架構闡述清楚。

希望各位考生能在詳讀完這本書後有所收穫並且拿到高分!

《連雅思主考官都讚嘆的雅思寫作解題祕笈》──

This book is intended to help you to understand what is required of you as a candidate in the writing section of the IELTS test. The book covers the various types of tasks you are likely to encounter in the test.

The IELTS test can be challenging, especially for students who have limited experience of academic writing. However, I hope that this book can enable you to ultimately be successful in your studies.

Before you start this book, I would like to point out the following.

First of all, the examples in this book are not the only way to write. Different writers (and teachers!) may come up with different ideas and a variety of different structures. The examples are intended to give you a model on which to base your own writing and to develop your own personal style.

Secondly, the IELTS writing test is testing your skill as a writer, not your memorisation skills. Do not try to memorise the examples exactly, but instead, use them as inspiration for your own essays and descriptions.

Finally, remember that the IELTS writing test is designed to help you to improve the skills you will need to work or study overseas. Unfortunately, there are no short cuts, or special tricks to “crack” the test. The best way to achieve your goal is to become a better writer, so practise as much as possible and make sure that you get feedback from an expert to help you to improve.

I hope that you find this book useful in developing your writing ability, and wish you every success in your test!

In some ways, listening to and understanding other people is the key to good communication. Being able to understand others can help us to appreciate different perspectives, give us ideas, and helps to create more mutual understanding in the world.

Although for native speakers, listening may seem like the easiest thing in the world, for those learning English as a second language, it can be a challenge to understand the “real meaning” of others in conversation and during lengthy speeches.

The IELTS Listening test is unlike other listening tests that you may have taken before. Rather than only testing your ability to hear keywords, IELTS challenges you to understand the whole of what is said, not simply identifying a few words. As such, you may find some elements of the test to be a struggle.

Nevertheless, I hope that by studying this book and improving your holistic listening skills, you will become better listeners, and consequently better communicators in real life.

I would like to thank my wonderful baby daughter, Caroline, who has taught me that there are always new ways to listen to others.
