Probably the weakest book in the series so far. I found it very hard to get emotionally invested in the characters the author spent the first half of the novel developing, as I was fairly certain early on that they were going to die. In terms of a defining character moment, however, I do think this book did an excellent job of establishing the Evil portion of the Evil Overlord title for Ainz; this was the first book in which I truly found it

I found it very hard to get emotionally invested in the characters the author spent the first half of the novel developing, as I was fairly certain early on that they were going to die. In terms of a defining character moment, however, I do think this book did an excellent job of establishing the Evil portion of the Evil Overlord title for Ainz;
this was the first book in which I truly found it impossible to accept even the dubious morality of Ainz's choices. Moving forward with Ainz's world domination, I think this was necessary, but I think it could have been done more effectively in another way. Overall, there was a sense of inevitability with this work that made it difficult to get invested in the narrative and the characters introduced. The lack of stakes on the part of Nazarick likely contributed to this-- the entire premise was
that this "invasion" was to test the basic defenses of Nazarick, but a book-long training exercise cum curb stomp just doesn't make for the most interesting reading. (That said, I did enjoy Arche's character arc, and I'm still looking forward to reading the next book in this series.)
This entry of the series was still fun to read and rather enjoyable, but somehow also felt a little bit flat. The previous
entries were interesting because of some character development happening (especially with the NPCs)...which is nearly completely absent in the 7th book - or let's not say absent, but rather...minor? It was not surprising, as similar decisions/plot things have been happened/made in the past, but with a bit more introspection for the reader to get involved with going on. My (small) dissatisfaction with this part may also stem from the fact that the book is already over, with the main story barely having moved forward - it makes it overall seem a little bit flat.
Ahhh Overlord. Anyway, I had seen the anime before I read this book, so I already knew what was going to happen. While in the anime I found that the workers came across as generally good guys, in this book there is an attempt to make them seem more amoral and worth (at least a bit) the horrors that await them. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of that, and in
the end you sympathize more with them than you do with the protagonist. Even with the one emotional moment where you realize just how badly Ainz misses his friends, it's hard to actually feel anything towards his situation based on his actions. Which, I mean, shows him slowly losing his humanity as more and more of him gets lost to the character he is playing/is. That's fine, but at this point I am actually pretty tired of the overpowered nature of Ainz and his followers. We're now
seven books in and pretty much the only reason I am pushing on is that maybe, just maybe, we'll finally find something that challenges him. Much like Saitama from One-Punch Man, Vol. 1, I'm bored with all challenges being meaningless and Ainz or his followers never being in danger. It feels very much like Kugane Maruyama is
writing a story at this point where Ainz is this force coming to power and they are crafting a story that basically tells various tales of the people of the world reacting to what is going on. It's a good writing technique and reminds me a lot of Dan Abnett's style. The difference is, even if it's a character on the page for a handful of moments, Abnett makes you care
about them and what happens to them. In small glimpses he gives you a great overview of what is going on globally and keeps you invested. In the Overlord series, there seems to be an attempt at that, but it's far less successful. You get glimpses of other people and their lives, but there is far less emotional impact in them, and after the first three books or so, you know that they are eventually going to die regardless because that is what Ainz does. With Abnett, sometimes they live, sometimes
they die, you don't know what is going to happen to them, so you end up reading more just to see what happens to them. Anyway, side ramble over. But if
you've made it this far, you've already been reading this series for awhile and will probably continue to do so much like I am. But still, out of all the isekais I have read, this is one of the better ones, and there is also something to be said for the unique art style and way the book is bound. So keep reading, much like I am, and let's see where this series is headed...
We get to experiment Nazarick from an outsiders point of view, the main characters here are a group of “workers” (adventurers) and their mission is to explore the newly discovered area and find out what’s lurking inside, so your normal adventure turns into a nightmare because we know what’s waiting for them.
The slice of life part highlighting the differences between adventurers and workers was quite good. The dungeon part where everyone is pretty much doomed was just uninteresting. And it loses an extra start for trying to hard to be dramatic... I really didn't care A B or C died... The developments on the overarching story were interesting and you can tell the dynamics of this series is going to change a lot! :) The slice of life part highlighting the differences between adventurers and workers was quite good. The best garbage I have ever read. A simple review from an avid fan. Overlord is a series that I really love. It is rare that I find a series that I even like, but I love Overlord. Volume 7 is widely regarded as the worst of all the books, and I have to agree. However, it is still a good book and worth a read. surviving their current predicament, leaving us to loose interest in their struggle. Foresig A simple review from an avid fan. Overlord is a series that I really love. Foresight, is one of the four adventuring teams, sent to explore newly discovered, mysterious ruins, in a bizarre location. Each member of Foresight, has enough thought and personality put into them to star in their own book, and to someone reading the books out of sequence, they very well might have thought this. Unfortunately though, people who have read
the prior books know that the tomb they are about to enter will be their final resting place. As far as recommendations go. Overlord has a pretty dark tone to it at times, so I would not recommend it to people who are childish or immature. It delves into complex strategy, so it is great for intelligent people and people who want to feel smart. As far as the story line goes, Ainz Ooal Gown, the main character of the previous books, acts as The series in general is a subversion of literary tropes surrounding an over-saturated genre in that way I think the
best comparison would be "The Lord of the Flies".

Summary Momanga: So everything is fine right?
Chugging along in this series. This volume was grim. The overlord series has been a unique isekai so far. Instead of solely focusing on the protagonist, Lord Ainz, the series explains the most about the
character by expanding on how others perceive them. This light novel follows a group of adventurers in order to color in the worlds details with a perspective that would be impossible for the MC to see. Stakes are established and a bond is forged between the reader and the innocent workers that are trying to eek out a living in a harsh kingdom. Overall I feel the tone is the darkest of the series yet and shows how far the MC
has strayed from humanity. There isn't much else to say about this book other than the fact that there was less grammatic repetition. In other words, I'd say the author is improving his word choice and choosing a better variety of descriptions as the series progresses. Can't wait to read the next volume.
It’s in the details So I am a fan of the anime and have been reading the book because I found out that the book holds several details and a more in-depth look at what goes on in the story and now that I’ve gotten this far through the volumes I can see that the book is actually a lot darker than the anime, not that it’s a bad thing. I actually would love to see the anime take a darker
turn too
from grey to black Great book. This volume
solidified the evil that is Overlord. Not every story is happy it ends well and I think this was absolutely gut/heart wrenching which speaks the the authors writing ability. Make no mistake like Tanya the evil this is a story from the villains perspective if your not ok with that don’t read, or if you read it don’t blame the author for your stupidity when this is to much for you.

First thoughts: Also: Stories about accidental Evil Overlords are pretty fun.
I don't understand why the author writes sob-stories, family and character dramas just to kill off the secondary characters a chapter or two later. One would have to be a sadist-sociopath-psychopath to not feel badly that Nazarick eats them up, tortures them and destroys their souls with a passion and blood-death lust. I loved the book and I love the series. If you've kept up with the anime or manga or the light novels you don't need much character development in the later books\series, unless it's a new character, because it's already there. Ainz’s plot is pretty cool getting all the adventurers to explore his tomb. I can’t believe how much written content there is compared to the speed the anime gets through it. That being said, there is a lot of depth that can be derived from reading these books.

Love hath no greater man Than Ainz. Overlord remains one of my favorite series. There’s so much potential in character development and where the story
can go. Truly a great saga.
Not the best in the series, it introduces the Empire but a lot of the content is not very relevant in the end. Still a good read, in the Overlord style.
My lease favorite volume so far. The author spent about 2/3rds of the page count setting up some potentially interesting characters only to dispose of all of them.
Enjoyed it a lot. I love the additional details that were not shown in the Anime/Manga
I am hooked! The story is written so well that even if I have anime spoilers it still feels like a whole different story. It’s amazing.
Life’s rough when you’re not a member of Nazarick, as these workers very quickly find out. Some of the moments are funny and some are tragic.
4 stars. This one was an exciting one mainly because Ainz showed up much more and played a bigger role in this volume. Also because it truly showed how evil our characters are.
Amazing
novel Can’t wait for the next volume, the story is to hard to put the book down. Never regret on purchasing it.
Read this review (and others) at: https://literatureislife.com/2018/07/... Note: This review will contain spoilers regarding the previous Overlord light novels. Overlord Vol. 7 is great overall, but a little bit of a mixed bag. After three books that (mostly) put Ainz in a

In other ways, the layout is closer to volumes 1-3. This book is more of a developmental step forward than its own thing. Multiple events here are certainly
going to be important later, even if they seem like little cliff notes now. Of all the previous books, Vol. 7 most resembles Vol. 4. Like with the Lizardman story, we see Ainz and his group in an almost purely antagonistic role. These other characters are built up and most of them are good, honest folks just living their lives. Despite that, you know that these people are doomed. Not for personal or even particularly malicious reasons. They are pieces in the game Ainz is playing; not so
much people as they are mere tools. Maruyama has no problem channeling his inner George R.R. Martin with his characters, often in brutally gruesome fashions. On the flipside of that, we do get a good portion of the book from Ainz’s point of view. There is more of him as the adventurer Momon, now establishing the persona outside the Kingdom’s borders. Readers also get to see more of Ainz as the ruler of Nazarick, as well as everything that role entails. Going from being a normal Japanese
salaryman to the supreme ruler of an evil army is a bit daunting. Seeing Ainz attempting to run an empire a bit like a business while balancing how his minions view him is awkward but humorous. The majority of the key events for Invaders of the Great Tomb happen towards the end of the story. To put it shortly, this is all a test. Nazarick is still experimenting with how the New World works in comparison to YGGDRASIL. Maybe this will be important in future books; at some point they are
likely going to make enemies so maybe they will be invaded and need to know about how their defenses operate differently now. The “test” also sets up some political machinations that will obviously be important within the next book or two…
Found this one pretty good. I definitely enjoyed the anime adaptation of this volume more, but it's still good. So, I recommend it ✨.
